The Darke County Wine Festival is held at the Coliseum at Darke County Fairgrounds in Greenville in mid-April. Discover local wines!

This one-day event is held over two sessions, session one is from noon to 3 pm, and session two is from 4 pm to 7 pm.

The ticket price includes 8 tasting tickets (10 tickets for VIPs), a logo glass, a wine tote with goodies and coupons.

Visitors can expect to see local wineries represented, craft and gift vendors, and food options. This festival is dedicated to raising funds for The Darke County Humane Society.

When is the Total Eclipse in Ohio?

Ohio will see the total eclipse on April 8, 2024, between the hours of approximately 3:08 pm and 3:15 pm. The duration will usually be around 2 to 4 minutes. The moon will start to cover the sun at around 1:50 pm and the sun will be completely uncovered by about 4:30 pm.

The last total eclipse seen in Ohio was in 1806, and the next one will be in 2099.

Which Ohio Cities are on the Path of Totality?

The Path of Totality is expected to be about 124 miles wide and will stretch across 13 states, including a line through Ohio from the southwest to the northeast regions.

Cities and regions just outside of this path will experience a partial eclipse, which is still an amazing spectacle!

The list below shows the cities that are on the path of totality, the expected time of total eclipse (EDT) all times are PM, and the expected duration of total eclipse (in minutes and seconds). This list is broken into regions of Ohio, so is not strictly in time order – although each region is.

This list is not exhaustive, there are some venues that at the time of writing have no details available, so do check for venues in your area, especially if you live on the path of totality.

Eye Protection for the Solar Eclipse

This is a quote from the NASA website about watching a solar eclipse:

When watching a partial or annular solar eclipse directly with your eyes, you must look through safe solar viewing glasses (“eclipse glasses”) or a safe handheld solar viewer at all times. Eclipse glasses are NOT regular sunglasses; regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the Sun.

Do NOT look at the Sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer — the concentrated solar rays will burn through the filter and cause serious eye injury.

Fun Facts About the 2024 Solar Eclipse

• This will be the first total solar eclipse in the continental U.S. in 7 years.
• A solar eclipse occurs when the Sun, the Moon, and Earth are aligned, or in syzygy.
• A solar eclipse only happens at New Moon, but not at every New Moon.
• Everyone in the continental U.S. will be able to see at least a partial eclipse.
• This eclipse will be the most-viewed ever.
• Totality is safe to look at.

The Next Total Eclipses Worldwide

If you want to chase total eclipses, the next ones that are due in the 2020s are:

• August 12, 2026 – Greenland, Iceland, and Spain
• August 2, 2027 – Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Somalia.
• July 22, 2028 – Australia and New Zealand.

Spain has the extremely rare bonus of having a total eclipse two years running!

A total solar eclipse will not happen again in Ohio until 2099!

My Stay at Graystone Ranch

If you’re on the lookout for a one-of-a-kind getaway in Ohio, look no further. I recently had the privilege of staying in a Luxury Covered Wagon at Graystone Ranch, and it was an experience I won’t soon forget. This remarkable glamping destination offers a tranquil and rustic escape with all the comforts of home.

The Essentials

As soon as I arrived at Graystone Ranch, I was greeted by the charm of the wooden acres and a slice of history from the days of westward expansion. Right away, I couldn’t help but notice the enchanting string lights adorning the trees, crafting a warm and inviting ambiance.

These Luxury Conestoga Wagons are a marvel, providing an Ohio glamping experience like no other. What impressed me most was the attention to detail and the modern amenities packed into this unique accommodation.

Comfort and Convenience

The first thing that struck me was the wagon’s full bathroom. In my experience, having such a well-appointed bathroom truly adds to the luxury of the stay. Furthermore, with a heater on hand, I was kept warm and cozy, even as the Ohio evenings cooled down.

Spacious and Well-Equipped

The wagon’s interior was surprisingly spacious, providing ample room to move around comfortably. With a queen bed and a twin bunk bed, there was plenty of space for a small family or a couple of friends. The wagon was also equipped with AC, heat, water, and even WiFi, ensuring a seamless blend of the rustic and the modern.

The Scenic Setting

The Graystone Ranch property is set on 26 wooded acres, making it the ideal retreat for nature lovers. The serene and tranquil atmosphere created a perfect backdrop for relaxation. I spent my time wandering through wooded trails, picnicking on the grassy lawn, and even considered trying my hand at fishing in the swimmable stocked pond. The availability of a pedal boat and John boat added an extra layer of fun to the experience.

The two covered wagons are just the beginning; the property also features a cabin overlooking the pond, secluded wooded campsites, and the Saloon, which is the equivalent of the ultimate man cave.

About Brumbaugh Fruit Farm

In the early 1960s, William and his wife Jeanie started Brumbaugh farm, just outside of Arcanum. From a small orchard, the farm is now a diverse family enterprise.

Farmer’s Daughter Bakery offers apple dumplings, apple fritters, doughnuts, pies, pastries, and much more.

The bakery is open year-round Monday to Friday, and weekends during September and October.

The Adventure Market sells goods, including home-grown peaches, apples, and pears. It is decorated with fun displays for the kids to enjoy while the parents shop.

The market is open Monday to Saturday, July and August, and includes Sundays during September and October.

Fun Activities at Brumbaugh Fruit Farm

There is nothing better than a crisp fall day in Ohio and spending it at a farm. Here you can find more than 10 fun fall activities.

Monster Mountain

You can climb to the top of this giant man-made mountain, take in the views, and then slide down the 40-foot tunnel!

Kiddie Korn Maze

This little maze is for kids who do not want to attempt the larger 5-acre corn maze! Children will work their way through the maze by identifying colors, adding, subtracting, and counting! It is fun and educational!

Kinda Kooky Korn Maze

If you love corn mazes, this 5-acre corn maze might be your favorite! If you want an extra challenge you can use the maze at dusk using a flashlight!

Holey Moley

The tunnels are a fun activity and are perfect for anybody who loves to go burrowing!

Pumpkin Express

Nothing completes a fall farm experience better than a hayride! Head over to the haywagon area and take a ride to the pumpkin patch! You can take your time picking out the perfect pumpkin.

Ole’ Fishin’ Hole

The hole is a rental area at Brumbaugh Fruit Farm. This pond and campfire area is set up perfectly for large groups to enjoy fishing, volleyball, and hot dog roasts! Call ahead for reservations.

The Crib

The corn crib area is for those dads (and moms) who want to spend time with their family, but also want to check on their favorite sports team score. The corn crib is the place to do that as well as enjoy some refreshments and snacks too!

Grandpa’s Fun Acre

If you like the chill of haunted things, you can treat yourself to a scare at the Haunted House. Be sure to visit Winne’s Cracked Corn Box and other activities in this area.

Storybook Forest

The Storybook Forest is the perfect place to enjoy your favorite storybook characters and learn some nature facts.

Billy Bee’s Flight O’Fun

Want to learn what it is like to be a bee? At Billy Bee’s Flight O’Fun you can do just that! You will also learn about the importance of honeybees and their role in Ohio orchards.

More Activities

There is also a playset with a climbing wall, cargo net, and slide, as well as a zip line through the orchard with a viewing platform that was installed in 2024.
