About Canton

Canton is the county seat of Stark County, northeast Ohio. It is the largest municipality in the Canton-Massillon metropolitan area, which includes all of Stark and Carroll Counties. Canton is notable for being the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the birthplace of the National Football League. President William McKinley was a Canton resident.

Clay’s Resort Jellystone Park

This waterpark is the perfect place to cool down when the weather is hot. In fact, it is easy to spend the entire day at this waterpark. This is not just a normal lake, there are things to do both in and around the lake.

There are ziplines that go into the lake, and there are waterslides as well. There are lifeguards and staff on hand at all times. Life Jackets are compulsory when you are at this lake. The resort provides life jackets. 

Tent camping and RV camping are available. As well as the lake, there is also an indoor pool, restaurants, a fishing lake, and miniature golf.

Sluggers and Putters Amusement Park

This family fun park is very popular and has loads to do for all the family. There is an arcade, go-karts, mini-golf, batting cages, flying chair swings, and a small roller coaster.

The park also has special offers during the season, so check out their website ahead of time to see if there are any offers.

Gervasi Vineyard

Gervasi Vineyard is in a superb setting. The Winery is set in perfect vineyard territory. It has a backdrop of hills, and the vines love the soil that these hills have provided over the ages. 

If you visit in the high season and you wish to have dinner, it is best to make a reservation ahead of time, as it can get quite busy. You can also stay in the hotel or one of the available villas.

Harry London Chocolates

Harry London Chocolates is owned by Fannie May Chocolates and offers a free tour, call ahead for tour times. The tour lasts for about an hour, and you will learn about the history of chocolate in Canton, Ohio. There will be sampling as well.

You will also be shown how the chocolate is made from the beginning through to when it is ready to be distributed. After the tour, if you wish to purchase some chocolate, it is available from the shop.

Canton Palace Theatre

The Canton Palace Theatre opened its doors in the Prohibition era in 1926. This theater is in Downtown Canton and has been entertaining guests for years. There are events and movies shown and hosted here.

Pro Football Hall of Fame

The Pro Football Hall of Fame is a destination that attracts people from around the world!

This is a museum that has something for everyone. It has exhibits, educational items, demos, and videos. When you arrive at the Hall of Fame, there will be a schedule of events that will take place throughout the day.

Some of the artifacts that are on display include items such as footballs, helmets, and uniforms. There are also items from past Super Bowls.

MAPS Air Museum

This Air Museum is a real treat. If you like all things air travel, then this is the place to visit as they have lots of artifacts on display. Past pilots who have some amazing stories from when they were flying conduct tours.

Some exhibits encourage your interaction, you can sit in the pilot’s seat on some of the airplanes.

Canton Museum of Art

The Canton Museum of Art is a great place to visit, even if you are not a big lover of Art. It is in downtown Canton and has some fantastic permanent collections. The museum also plays host to exhibits that tour around the US.

McKinley Museum and Presidential Library

The McKinley Museum is a jewel in the crown of Canton, Ohio. A section of the museum is dedicated to education and science. You can play with things like magnets and lights.

The museum also has a brilliant ‘Discover World’ where you are greeted by a roaring dinosaur. The museum has a huge, authentic mastodon skeleton that was originally discovered in Canton in 1970, and there are also other animals from our time as well.

Additionally, there is a street with shops and other buildings along it. There is an exhibit about the local areas as well. There are videos and artifacts about the local area and how it came to be. Stark County Courthouse

The Stark County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is in the Beaux-Arts architecture style. The clock tower is stunning, with statues of trumpeting angels. This is where William McKinley began his path to the Whitehouse, and sadly, where the nation mourned his assassination. The beauty of this building makes it worth a look when you are in Canton.

Quail Hollow Park

Quail Hollow Park is a large park covering over 700 acres of land. Charming meadows, marshes, and woodlands are aplenty in this park. Some trails are available as well. There is a Mountain Bike trail that is over 3 miles long. There is also a bridle trail that is of similar length.

The Nature for All trail is wheelchair and stroller-friendly. There is a stunning Manor House that is set in the middle of the park as well. This grand House can be hired for events such as weddings, parties, and christenings.

Baylor Beach Park

This is a lovely, clean lake where you can come in the summer to cool off. It is also a great place for picnicking, and there are tables on site. However, it is advised to bring your own chairs as these are not provided.

The lake has some diving boards and slides for children.

There is a concession stand that sells food and drinks. There is also a mini-golf and a campground available here. If you visit the website, there may be some offers available.

Atwood Lake Park

Atwood Lake Park is not too far away from Canton, Ohio, and it has a lot to offer. You can camp here, and you can also enjoy the beach, nature center, and hiking trails. There is a fee to enter the park, so it is advised that you check out the website for more information.

Swimming, fishing, and kayaking are available. There are other watersports available, and equipment can be rented.

National Trail Raceway is owned by Big Ambitions, LLC. It is a quarter-mile dragstrip in Licking County, about 30 minutes east of Columbus.

Mason, Ohio is well known as a place that is home to one of the world’s largest Tennis Stadiums, The Lindner Family Tennis Center, and Kings Island Amusement Park. Of course, there are many other things that Mason is also known for.

The Cincinnati Masters tournament has been taking place here since 1899. It is the second most important annual tennis tournament in the US after the US Open.

Kings Island

Sonder Brewing

This is a large building that has a 30-barrel house and a large taproom as well. They have been brewing beer here for over 40 years, and they have a large selection of beers available. The taproom is a jewel in the crown when visiting this establishment, and they also allow dogs to visit.

Some of the available items include merchandise and packaged beers. Food is served here as well, and you can also enjoy various drinks like cocktails, beers, wine, and spirits!

This is a fantastic park to visit at any time of the year, but it does come into its own in the summer months. Painting With A Twist began after Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans. The idea behind this venture is for people to get together and have fun. The idea has grown since it began in the aftermath of the hurricane, and it has been a huge success. Schappacher Park Dog Run

The Schappacher Park Dog Run is a large park that is designed for dogs and their humans. There are some lovely shady areas and a stream as well. It should be noted that reservations are not available here, and all services on offer are on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis. The shelters can also be unavailable at times due to events and refurbishment, so do call ahead and check their availability. So, if you want to have some time with your dog, then this is the place to visit.

Fleckenstein Park

Fleckenstein Park is a 50-acre park with facilities available like soccer fields, picnic areas, baseball diamonds, and restrooms. Shelters are available on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis. There are also two fenced baseball fields with dugouts. The pond in the park also offers fishing but an Ohio fishing permit is required.

About Snow Tubing in Ohio

If you enjoy sledding, then snow tubing will be your thing too. Below are five places in Ohio where you can enjoy this activity! Snow tubing is great fun for the entire family, and it plays a part in making memories for many years to come.

Snow Trails: Snow Tubing and Glow Tubing

Vertical Descent Snow Tubing at Snow Trails is located near the town of Mansfield, Ohio, and this resort also offers Glow Tubing. This is also the perfect place to bring the smaller ones as there are no age or height restrictions at this resort. 

It should be noted that even though there are no height or age restrictions, only one person is permitted to ride in each tube. One important thing to remember is that each weekend in the season (and on special dates), the hill is lined with LED lights, and it does make a truly spectacular experience! Strictly by reservation.

Polar Blast Tubing at Brandywine Ski Resort

Brandywine Ski Resort is located in Peninsula, Ohio. Skiing and snowboarding are available at this resort as well. The Snow Tubing hill here is quite large and is fun for people of all ages.

Each visitor must be able to ride their own tube, so children may not ride on an adult’s lap. ‘Link’ tubes and groups are permitted when going down the hill.

Glow Tubing at Funtimes Fun Park

This resort is a little different, snow tubing on an artificial hill, using synthetic ice; therefore, the activities here are not weather-dependent!

There are height restrictions in place, so it is best to contact them ahead of a visit to avoid disappointment. 

The glow tubing is amazing. As this is a very popular resort, it is a good idea to buy tickets in advance.

Snow Tubing in Southwest Ohio

Valley’s Edge Snow Tubing

Valley’s Edge, located in New Paris, is one of the smaller resorts in Ohio; however, this does not mean that you cannot have as much fun here. 

This resort is ideal for families. Children must be over 4 and able to ride a tube alone. They do allow ‘links’ of up to three tubes.

Tubing Park at Mad River Mountain

The Bubly Tubing Park at Mad River Mountain is located about 45 minutes Northwest of Columbus in the town of Zanesfield, Ohio. Skiing and snowboarding are also available here. This fantastic resort has the largest tubing park in Ohio. 

Only one person per tube; however, ‘linked’ rides are available on request. There is a height restriction, so it is a good idea to call ahead to check snow conditions and height restrictions.

About Akron Ohio

Akron Ohio is located in the Great Lakes region of the US. Akron is around 39 miles south of Lake Erie. Located on the western end of the Glaciated Allegheny Plateau, Akron includes rolling hills and varied terrain. The Ohio and Erie Canal passes through the city and separates the east and west. Akron has the only biogas facility in the United States that produces methane that in turn produces Electricity.

Canal Park is home to Akron’s Minor League baseball team – the Akron Rubber Ducks!  This Minor League Baseball ground is equipped with a video board, a playing surface, and a clubhouse. These facilities are for the entire family.

You can take a day trip on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, or you can ride the train for a special event. Events take place throughout the year, so make sure to check out the website for details.

Hale Farm and Village

Hale Farm and Village offers the visitor an old-fashioned, traditional experience. The farm has been set up as an outdoor museum experience. This is a 200-year-old property that is set in Cuyahoga Valley.

Boston Mills/Brandywine Ski Resorts are 17 miles (23km) north of downtown Akron. It is known as the ‘Snowboarding capital of Ohio’. These two resorts are sister resorts, and they can handle 20,000 visitors per hour. Between these two resorts, there are 19 ski runs that extend over 79 acres of land. The terrain is suitable for both novices and experienced skiers. Night skiing is also an option, and Boston Mills also boasts the steepest ski slope in the United States.  Snow tubing and snowshoeing are also popular activities here.

Akron Children’s Museum

Akron Children’s Museum lets your children play! Children can engage in a variety of activities. Activities include a farmers market and a water table. There is a list of exhibits on the website. Stan Hywet Hall was built for F. A. Seiberling, a co-founder of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. When you tour around the estate it is like going back in time.
