Marblehead Lighthouse sits on the shore of Lake Erie. It is one of the most photographed landmarks in Ohio and is also one of the most instantly recognizable buildings.

Situated at the tip of Marblehead Peninsula, a narrow strip of land that juts into Lake Erie, this is the oldest lighthouse in continuous operation on the Great Lakes. It has guided ships and boats safely along the rocky shores of the peninsula since 1822.
Visitors can climb the 77 steps to the top of the lighthouse during the summer season for amazing views across the Lake, with the islands in the distance. On a clear day, Cedar Point in Sandusky can also be seen.
Tours of the lighthouse are available every summer day from noon to 4 pm (at 20-minute intervals). Admission is nominal, and tickets are available onsite on the day of your visit.
The summer season is from the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day.
The grounds around Marblehead Lighthouse offer excellent picnicking with scenic Lake views. Picnic tables and restrooms are available.
Be sure to stop by the replica lifesaving station with a museum of US Coast Guard activities, as well as the Keepers House with a gift shop.
The site is operated collaboratively between the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society.
Cindy’s Insider Ohio Tips!
Wear closed-toe shoes and not a dress/skirt for the tour, you have to climb 77 open stairs to reach the viewing platform. Plenty of places to have a picnic with amazing views.
