Yellow Creek Park is a 76-acre park in Struthers, near Youngstown, Mahoning County. It is operated by Mill Creek MetroParks. The historic Hopewell Furnace is accessible from this park.
Encompassing a gorge area, Yellow Creek Park offers a variety of activities for visitors. Shore fishing is available on Yellow Creek from the beginning of March to the end of November.
There are four hiking trails, all of which are challenging!
- West Trail | 0.25 miles | Difficult with hills and steps
- Lower East Trail | 0.5 miles | Moderate with small hills
- Upper East Trail | 0.5 miles | Difficult with hills and steps
- Hopewell Trail | 1 mile | Difficult with 3 creek crossings (only available when water levels are low)
Other activities include tennis courts, horseshoe courts, basketball courts, and a playground.
The Historic Hopewell Furnace is accessible only when water levels are low. It was built in 1802 and was the first blast furnace in Ohio. It remained in operation until 1808.
Yellow Creek Lodge is available for rental with a capacity of up to 72 people and parking for 50 vehicles. There is a kitchen, indoor restroom, playground, air conditioning, and a gas fireplace. Online reservations.
The Captain John Struthers Pavilion is available seasonally with a capacity of up to 96 people and parking for 50 vehicles. With picnic tables and benches, electricity, a grill, public restrooms, and running water. Online reservations.
