Cross-Country Skiing In Ohio

There are plenty of wonderful places in Ohio to enjoy cross-country skiing. As we all know, in Ohio we are blessed with very cold winters, and these conditions give visitors the opportunity to get out and about. Below are more than 20 places to enjoy Cross Country Skiing in Ohio.

Northeast Ohio
Cleveland Metroparks
In Cuyahoga County, skiing is permitted on the hiking, bridle, and unplowed all-purpose trails. This country park also has 6 golf courses. Ski rentals are available on an hourly basis.
Findley State Park
Here there are over 5 miles of trails available for people to use. These trails are available for cross-country skiing when the ground is frozen solid and is covered with an abundance of snow. Visitors who come here must provide their own equipment.
Geauga Park District
In Geauga County, skiing is permitted at 17 of the parks that are located in this district. On the website, there are different classes and programs available for visitors to take part in.
Geneva State Park
In Ashtabula County, there are 2 miles of trails that are available for cross-country skiing when the ground is frozen solid and there are snowfields. In this county, visitors must provide their own ski equipment.
Lake Metroparks
In Lake County, Skiing is available at the Chapin Forest Reservation and Girdled Road Reservation. Ski equipment can be rented here and the equipment is available at Pine Lodge Ski Center. It should also be noted that Chapin Forest Trails are floodlit at night.
Lake Milton State Park
In Mahoning County, there are over 1.25 miles of trails. These trails are available for skiing when the ground is frozen and covered with snow. In this county, visitors must provide their own Ski equipment.
Lorain County Parks
In Lorain County, skiing is permitted in all of the parks. Skiing is also permitted at Forest Hills Golf Course and Schoepfle Garden providing there are at least 3 inches of snow on the ground.
Mill Creek MetroParks
In Mahoning County, skiing is permitted on 7 trails within the Metropark. Skiing is also available on the Par 3 golf course and Mill Creek. Skiing equipment must be provided by visitors.
Portage Lakes State Park
In Summit County there are 5.5 miles of trails available when the conditions are correct. The ground must be frozen solid with snow cover. It must also be noted that visitors must bring their own ski equipment.
Mosquito Lake State Park
There are over 15 miles of trail available in Trumbull County. These trails are available to people when the ground is frozen and has copious amounts of snow cover. Visitors will have to bring their own Ski equipment.
Punderson State Park
There are two trails available in this park and it is advised that these trails are for people who have moderate skiing skills. Visitors will have to bring their own Ski equipment.
Portage Park District
In Portage County, skiing is permitted on 8 of the trails that are within the park. These trails are varied in length, from 1.9 miles to over 7 miles long. Visitors must bring their own ski equipment.
Quail Hollow Park
In Stark County, cross-country skiing is permitted on the bridle paths. A condition of this use is that the paths are covered with a minimum of 4 inches of snow. In this location, equipment is available for rent. Classes are available in January and February.
Summit MetroParks
In Summit County, skiing is permitted in 8 of the Metroparks. Skiing is also permitted at:
- The Bike and Hike trail
- Freedom Trail
- Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail
For these trails to be open, there must be a minimum of two inches of snow on the ground.
Stark Parks
In Stark County, skiing is permitted in all areas of the county. Three recommendations for skiing are:
- Towpath Trail
- Nickel Plate Trail
- Iron Horse Trail
Pymatuning State Park
In this park, Skiing is allowed on the 1 mile Beaver Dam Trail. It must be noted that visitors will have to bring their own Ski equipment.
Medina County Park District
In Medina County, Skiing is permitted at 14 different locations, provided that is snow on the ground and the ground is ice packed. Visitors will need to bring their own ski equipment to Medina County.
Holden Arboretum
In Lake County, the trails are not groomed and looked after by the authorities. Having said that, visitors are allowed to bring their own equipment and use the trails. It is important and part of the rules that visitors must be registered before they are allowed to use the trails
Headlands Beach State Park
In Lake County, there are over a mile of trails available for visitors to use. The ground must be ice packed and covered with snow. Visitors will also need to bring their own equipment with them when they visit Lake County.
Northwest Ohio
Oak Openings Ski Trails
Ski with the animals! At Evergreen Park you can follow rabbit, mink, and deer tracks!

Very many of the parks, preserves, and metro parks in Ohio welcome cross-country skiers when there is a reasonable depth of snow on the ground. At some of these locations you can rent equipment but do call ahead or check the websites because not all of them do.
