Scioto Trail State Park is in Ross County, Southeast Ohio, within the stunning 9,000-acre Scioto Trail State Forest. It is just south of Chillicothe, where the ridgetops and winding roads offer breathtaking views of southern Ohio’s Scioto River Valley.

Scioto Trail State Park, covering 218 acres, is a serene, wooded haven located just south of Chillicothe. Set within the expansive 9,000-acre Scioto Trail State Forest in Ross County, the park features ridgetops and winding forest roads that provide stunning views of the Scioto River Valley in southern Ohio. This picturesque and secluded park offers visitors an ideal escape, with opportunities for camping, fishing, and paddling among the adventures awaiting outdoor enthusiasts.

If you want a quiet, relaxing getaway or day out, Scioto Trail State Park is definitely the place to go. This is a quiet park, I would consider it to be something of a hidden gem as not many people seem to know about it! The lakes and scenery are beautiful and the wildlife is amazing to see!
Boating and Camping
Caldwell Lake is available for hand-powered boats and electric motor boats only. There is one boat ramp and kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats are available for rent from the campground check-in station on a seasonal basis.
The Scioto Trail State Park Campground has electric sites near Caldwell Lake, and primitive sites at the Stewart Lake Camp Area.

Fishing
Fishing is available on the lakes. Catches can include Bluegill, Bass, catfish, and Trout. A valid Ohio fishing license is required.
Picnicking and Swimming
There are three picnic areas in the park. All three have tables and grills provided.
There are swimming areas at the small wading beach near the campground. This beach is open during daylight hours. Pets are not allowed on the beach.
Hiking Trails
There are three trails.
- Church Hollow Trail – 2 miles | Difficult | Hike | Bike
- 3-C Trail – 1 mile | Moderate | Hike | Bike
- Friendship Trail – 0.4 miles | Family-Friendly | Hike | Bike
The park also offers winter recreation. Visitors can ice fish when the weather is suitable and the conditions allow. The park also has a Playground, Basketball courts, and Horseshoe court.
