Kalahari Resorts & Conventions

Kalahari Resorts is in Sandusky, and the company aims to share its love for Africa with its guests. At the resort, you will find African artwork, furniture, music, and crafts. They also support the people, places, and cultures they are inspired by.

Water activities include slides, lazy rivers, Mud Hut swim-up bar, a wave pool, water basketball, Underwater Virtual Reality, and much more.

The Big Game Room Arcade features hundreds of arcade games as well as Laser Tag, Cave of Mirrors, Blacklight Madagascar Mini Golf, Escape Rooms, and Hang Time.

For the adults, there is Spa Kalahari & Salon, Halotherapy Salt Room, and Fitness Training.

There are eight dining experiences at Kalahari Resorts, including Sortino’s Italian Kitchen, Great Karoo Marketplace, Java Manjaro, and The Last Bite.

There is a vast selection of rooms at this resort, and packages are available. Waterpark admission is included with your stay.

Millbrook Outdoor Resort

Millbrook is situated on the shores of a 10-acre lake and offers three types of accommodation, Park Villas, Deluxe Cabins, and RV and Tent Campsites.

At this resort, there is an indoor swimming pool, fitness center, arcade, game room, sauna, lakeside deck pavilion, football field, soccer field, basketball court, volleyball court, and horseshoe pits.

Activities include miniature golf, kayaking, peddle and row boats, canoeing, and fishing (no license required).

There are a number of events throughout the year, mainly held on weekends, such as Murder Mystery, Wine and Cheese, Freedom Fest, Christmas in July, and Colors of Fun.

Great Wolf Lodge Mason

Great Wolf Lodge at Mason in the Cincinnati area is one of the largest waterparks in Ohio.

You and the children can enjoy Fort Mackenzie, Slap Tail Pond, Crooked Creek, River Canyon Run, Alberta Falls, Whooping Hollow, The Triple Twist, Raccoon Lagoon, and many more water activities.

Other activities include Ten Paw Alley (bowling with short lanes), Northern Lights Arcade, Glow Golf, and Build-a-Bear Workshop.

Great Wolf Lodge has regular events, some of which are included with your stay.

There are a number of dining options, including Hungry as a Wolf, Grizzly Rob’s Bar, Loose Moose, and Wood’s End Creamery.

Great Wolf Lodge Sandusky

Great Wolf Lodge Sandusky is similar to Great Wolf Lodge Mason.

The waterpark has similar attractions, such as Fort Mackenzie, Otter Run, Totem Towers, Big Foot Pass, Manitoba tubs, Soak’n Oak Springs, and many more.

Other activities include MagiQuest, Oliver’s Mining Sluice, and Build-a-Bear Workshop.

Great Wolf Lodge Sandusky also has regular events, such as character appearances, Adventures of the Great Wolf Pack, and Hustle & Howl Dance Party.

The dining options here include Hungry as a Wolf, The Watering Hole, Bear Paw, and Gitchigoomie.

Hotel Breakers at Cedar Point

Hotel Breakers is a beachfront resort on the shores of Lake Erie and just steps away from entrances to Cedar Point and Cedar Point Shores.

The resort features over 650 guestrooms and suites that are in a modern design with clean lines and bold colors.

Amenities at Hotel Breakers include two outdoor pools and hot tubs, an outdoor water play area, a boutique gift shop, a fitness center, and parasail and jet ski rentals.

Dining options include Poolside Parlor, Sand Bar, Surf Lounge, Perkins Restaurant and Bakery, T.G.I. Friday’s, and Starbucks.

Cedar Point Amusement Park has a host of rides and activities for both children and adults.

Castaway Bay Indoor Waterpark Resort

Castaway Bay Indoor Waterpark Resort is near Cedar Point, Sandusky. It has lots of activities in the indoor waterpark and resort, as well as dining options and shops.

The waterpark has a tropical Caribbean theme and offers activities including Air Racer Rally, Castawave Pool, Hank’s Hangout, and Rocket’s Canopy Coaster.

Other activities include an Escape Room, Black Light Mini Golf, Mini Bowling, and a gaming arcade.

Nature Resorts

The resorts in this list are situated in natural surroundings and offer a lot of hiking and fitness activities. Most of these resorts welcome children and offer some activities for them.

Hocking Hills State Park Lodge

Hocking Hills State Park Lodge must be every hiker’s idea of paradise! It has 81 guestrooms, decorated and furnished in rustic style, and 40 cabins, some of which are pet friendly.

The guestrooms all have scenic views of the surrounding woodlands and Hocking Hills State Park. The cabins have two bedrooms, a screened porch with seating, a charcoal grill, a fire ring, and a picnic table.

At the Lodge, there is an indoor and outdoor swimming pool and an indoor and outdoor hot tub, as well as a fitness center.

The Rock House Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Rock House Pub offers a wide variety of beverages, including craft beers, wine, cocktails, and mocktails.

Café 22 serves light snacks, hot drinks, and ice cream.

This resort is right on the edge of Hocking Hills State Park, so is the perfect base for hikes, including Old Man’s Cave, Ash Cave, Cedar Falls, and Cantwell Cliffs.

Ravenwood Castle

Ravenwood Castle is built in the style of 12th and 13th-century defense castles in England and Wales. A stay at this resort is a true step back in time!

Situated in a remote area in the woods of scenic Hocking Hills, Ravenwood Castle is perfect for a stay with family and friends, or a romantic getaway. With lots of hiking nearby, this is a nature lover’s dream destination.

The guest rooms in the castle have regal names such as The Duke’s Dungeon, Queen Elizabeth Suite, King Arthur Suite, and Rapunzel’s Tower.

Maybe one of the most charming things about Ravenwood Castle is the Medieval Village Cottages. Stay in one of these for more historical experiences. Candlemaker’s Cottage, Brewer’s Cottage, Silversmith’s House, and The Clock Tower are just some of the cottages here.

Ravenwood Castle hosts a number of events throughout the year, including murder mystery weekends, beer tasting weekends, and special occasion events such as Halloween.

There are lots of board games available for guests to relax with during the evening. Ravenwood’s mission is to take their guests away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life!

The Great Hall Diner serves dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, with a different menu each week. Reservations are required.

The Raven’s Roost Pub offers a selection of craft beers and fine wines. There is a limited pub fare menu. Open daily.

Hueston Woods Lodge

Hueston Woods Lodge is in the southwest of Ohio in Hueston Woods State Park.

There are three accommodation options, Lodge Rooms, Cabins, and Pet-Friendly Accommodations.

There are miles of scenic hiking trails available locally from this resort, including Cedar Falls Hiking Trail, West Short Trail, Mud Lick Hiking Trails, and Blue Heron Hiking Trail.

You can take some remarkable scenic drives, Lower Valley Pike Road, Accommodation Line Scenic Byway, Land of the Cross–Topped Churches Scenic Byway, and Preble County Covered Bridges. Route maps are available online.

Activities at the Hueston Woods Lodge include an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a nature center, disc golf, a bonfire pit, and the Hueston Woods Covered Bridge.

There is a badminton court, a cornhole, a children’s playground, a dog park, and an archery range.

The Smokehouse at Hueston Woods Lodge offers both healthy and hearty food, with a weekend breakfast buffet and Friday night’s ‘all-you-can-eat fish fry’. The Johnny Appleseed Lounge has a large-screen TV and offers snacks and drinks.

Salt Fork State Park Lodge

Salt Fork Lodge is just over two miles from Salt Fork State Park. There are three accommodation options, Lodge Rooms, Cabins, and Pet-Friendly Accommodations.

Onsite activities include an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, indoor hot tub, fitness center, basketball hoops, lawn games, gem mining (seasonal), and campfire rings.

There is an 18-hole golf course, a marina, a beach, a nature center, an archery range, and a dog park.

Hiking trails at Salt Fork State Park include Stone House Loop Trail, Shadebush Trail, Purple Loop, and Pine Crest Loop Trail.

Scenic drives from the resort are Historic National Road, US Route 40 ‘S’ Bridge Route, State Route 821, Ohio & Erie Canal – America’s Byway. Route maps are available online.

  • Timbers Restaurant offers weekend specials and a varied menu. There are views of Salt Fork Lake from the floor-to-ceiling windows. This restaurant is family-friendly.
  • Wildlife Lounge offers a relaxing environment to enjoy a drink and a pizza.
  • Salt Fok Golf Course Pro-Shop is located close to the 9th hole on the golf course. Grab a quick bite or just a drink.
  • Sugartree Marina Dining offers light bites and will deliver to your boat at the Sugartree Marina docks.

Cherry Ridge Retreat

Cherry Ridge Retreat at Hocking Hills offers stays for families, romantic getaways, and rustic living accommodations.

The Luxury cabins include three family cabins, six romantic cabins, and one rustic cabin. Each cabin is situated on its own private site on more than 140 forested acres. There are wooded paths, streams, ponds, private picnic areas, and waterside gazebos.

Hocking Hills offers a wide variety of activities with four parks: Hocking Hills State Park, Lake Hope State Park, Wayne National Forest, and Lake Logan State Park.

Outdoor adventure activities include ziplining, rappelling and rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, scenic train rides, and hot air balloon rides.

Take to the water and enjoy canoeing, kayaking, jet-pack adventures, and swimming.

Maumee Bay Lodge

Maumee Bay Lodge has 120 guest rooms, rooms with a lake view, rooms with outdoor pool access, loft rooms, and accessible rooms. There are also cabins, pet-friendly accommodations, a reunion cabin for groups, and marina slips if you wish to travel by boat.

Onsite outdoor activities include hiking and biking trails – the Lodge is located within Maumee Bay State Park, canoeing, paddle boats, fishing, an 18-hole golf course, outdoor playground, horseshoe pits, tennis courts, and more.

Indoor activities include racquetball and wallyball courts, amphitheater, children’s soft play area, and game room.

Scenic drives from Maumee Bay Lodge are Ohio Route 2, Lake Erie Coastal Ohio Trail, and Maumee Valley Scenic Byway. A route map is available online.

There are three onsite dining options

  • Water’s Edge Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Icebreaker Lounge offers meals and drinks, including cocktails.
  • Bayside Snack Shop offers burgers, fries, frozen treats, and beverages.

Punderson Manor Lodge

Punderson Manor is an English Tudor-style manor with beautiful architecture and stunning surroundings.

Punderson Manor Rooms are estate-style rooms in the original part of the manor house. An additional wing features modern accommodations and a hospitality room.

Hillside and Parkside cabins have two bedrooms and accommodate 5 or 6 people. There is private parking at the cabins. Pet-friendly cabins are also available.

There is an indoor and outdoor swimming pool and an outdoor bonfire pit.

Activities at Punderson Manor include Sandy beach, fishing, boating and sailing, an 18-hole golf course, tennis court, basketball court, archery range, 14 miles of hiking, walking, and running trails, bird watching, and an outdoor children’s playground.

The Cherry Dining Room offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus. Restricted hours on holidays.

Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls

The Inn at Cedar Falls is surrounded by Hocking Hills State Park. Some of the best places to visit in Hocking Hills are very nearby.

The accommodations include cabins, geodomes, cottages, yurts, and lodges.

There are six cabins that sleep from one to four people, all furnished to a high quality, and with the amenities you would expect at a luxury property.

The geodomes have a king-size bed, a small dining table, and chairs, a couch facing the picture window, a kitchenette with retro-style appliances, and a bathroom with a glass shower.

The geodomes at the Inn at Cedar Falls were the first in the US to feature indoor plumbing. If you love the idea of camping out, but not the practice so much, this is a great choice!

Hocking Hills Cottage Rentals

Hocking Hills Cottage Rentals properties are situated on two acres of natural woodland. All the cottages have a gas log stove, a microwave, an under-counter refrigerator, and a private deck. There is one handicap-accessible cottage, and a few dog-friendly ones.

Hocking Hills Yurt Rentals combine cabin life and tent camping. Staying in a yurt is normally referred to as ‘Glamping’. Each yurt is 20 feet in diameter, they have a king-size bed or two twin beds, full bathroom with tiled shower, gas log stove, and more amenities. This is definitely glamorous camping!

Hocking Hills Lodges are not on the Inn at Cedar Falls site, they are scattered throughout Hocking Hills. There are 23 lodges sleeping from 2 to 28 people. These lodges are decorated in various styles, from rustic to very modern, and have all the amenities expected from a luxury property.

The spa is located in the original inn building and offers massages and packages.

Kindred Spirits Restaurant is on the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls property. The restaurant offers gourmet meals that are cooked to order. Open daily for breakfast, seasonally for lunch, and nightly for dinner. Reservations are highly recommended.

Resorts in Ohio for Adults

These resorts for adults are mainly geared toward grown-ups! Without a lot of activities for kids, children are still welcome at some of them.

The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake

The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake has 109 rooms as well as 25 lakeside cottages.

The rooms are deluxe, premium, king, courtyard, and ADA rooms. The lakeside cottages are premium, deluxe, and standard.

There is an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool, hot tubs, a fitness center, and massage services.

Horizons Restaurant is a striking glass-enclosed octagonal dining room, with views of Lake Erie. The menu here is seasonal and features classic American cuisine. Horizons is open year-round, but hours vary with the seasons. See the website for more information.

Glenlaurel Scottish Inn & Cottages

Glenlaurel has 22 private accommodations that feature genuine Scottish-themed décor and luxurious amenities.

The Carriage House has two guest rooms and three suites, and the Manor House has two guest rooms and two suites.

There are seven Crofts which are smaller versions of a cottage. The crofts are snug and cozy and ideal for a romantic weekend.

The six cottages offer a luxurious king sleigh bed, complete with an entertainment center, a stone fireplace, a small kitchenette, a bathroom, and all the amenities expected from a luxury property.

The Manor House has three dining rooms

  • Waif’s Haven Kitchen

A links-style golf course offers eight holes replicating the Scottish links-style from over 100 years ago.

Belamere Suites Hotel
