Sunset Ridge Lavender Farm is open for visitors from June to mid-July, but not every day, so check out their opening hours before setting off.

The large purple barn was built by the Ohio Amish in 2017 and is mortise and tenon construction. It is a work of art – a white oak frame held together with hickory pegs. The barn has a gift shop at the south end, a porch with rocking chairs for visitors to relax, and the remainder of the space is for activities.

Yoga sessions and photography sessions are popular activities.

Pick your own lavender. Each bundle should be 100-150 stems. No appointment is necessary for this activity. Scissors, rubber bands, and info on lavender picking is provided.

The gift shop offers culinary items, skin care and bath products, lavender bundles, jewelry, and more.

The apple picking season is typically from early to mid-September, to early October. The orchards announce their start dates on their website or social media pages. Some of the busier orchards require reservations, so check out their website before you head out.

The majority of orchards have different varieties of apples available to purchase year-round, as well as other fruits and vegetables. Quarry Hill Orchards

Quarry Hill Orchards in Berlin Heights offer summer and fall you-pick. Apples are usually available from August to late October. Summer fruits that you can pick are cherries, raspberries, and peaches. Quarry Hill hosts many events throughout the year, details of which are available on their website and social media pages. Johnston Fruit Farms

At Johnston Fruit Farms in Swanton, you can pick your own apples and pumpkins in the fall, and strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries in the summer. You can also pick flowers at this farm. There is a free petting zoo, games, and a sandbox for the children. Johnston’s makes cider in six varieties and you can view the cider mill at work. They also make a wide variety of donuts – fresh daily.

Hidden Hills Orchard

Hidden Hills Orchard in Marietta grows a wide variety of apples. Their six U-pick varieties are Buckeye Gala, Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, Enterprise, Cameo, and Gold Rush. Hidden Hills produces an award-winning apple cider on-site. The orchard also grows cherries and peaches that are sold locally.

Fuhrmann Orchards

Fuhrmann Orchards offered you-pick apples for the first time in 2024. Early Fuji is the first of five varieties ready for picking in early September. The others are Golden Delicious (mid to late September), RubyRush (late September), Rosalee (early October), and GoldRush (late October to early November).

The Orchards grow 31 varieties of apples, there is an online chart so you can see when each variety is ready to purchase. Check the Facebook page for the you-pick availability.

Fuhrmann’s also have a sunflower field, you-pick pumpkins, as well as a wide variety of fruit and vegetables for sale. There is also an annual Apple Fest in October.

Peifer Orchards

Peifer Orchards in Yellow Springs offer U-pick throughout the summer and fall, with apples and pumpkins in the fall and blackberries, red raspberries, and black raspberries in the summer. Tips for Visiting Lavender Farms

Here are some simple tips for visiting a lavender farm in Ohio:

• Call ahead to see if you need to make a reservation.
• Wear a hat or sunscreen. Lavender is a sun-loving plant.
• Check the forecast. Activities at lavender farms are typically weather-dependent.
• Don’t forget your camera! You will have great photo ops!
• Bring cash with you in case you want to purchase something at the shop. They may only accept cash.
• If cutting is allowed, consider bringing your own clippers, as supplies may be limited. You may also want to bring a bucket of water with you to keep your lavender fresh on the drive home.
• Bees are attracted to lavender but typically will not bother you unless they feel threatened. Consider whether this is a good activity if you have a bee allergy.
• Never visit after hours or when the farm is closed.

About Kingsway Pumpkin Farm

Kingsway Pumpkin Farm is located in Hartville, Ohio, in Stark County.

The farm started as a small pumpkin patch in 1990. Each year, the family slowly added to the farm, which has grown into an Ohio favorite! The farm prides itself on being festive and friendly and avoiding the darker side of Halloween.  The farm activities are very family-oriented. 

Pumpkins and all things fall-related are available in the sales area; you do not need to pay admission to enter that area. 

There are attractions including a Fire Truck Slide, Western Town, Pedal Playground, Rubber Duck Races, places to take fun fall photos, and more! 

Wagon Rides

Take a wagon ride out to the pumpkin patch, where you can pick your own pumpkin. The pumpkins are weighed upon return and are priced by weight. The cost of the pumpkin is not included in the admission price.

If you want a wagon ride, they run daily throughout October.  They also run in late September on weekends only.

There is an admission charge, which includes an 8-acre corn maze, a wagon ride, a visit with farm animals, pedal carts, a jump pad, a straw maze, and a corn box. Children under 3 are free!

About Brumbaugh Fruit Farm

In the early 1960s, William and his wife Jeanie started Brumbaugh farm, just outside of Arcanum. From a small orchard, the farm is now a diverse family enterprise.

Farmer’s Daughter Bakery offers apple dumplings, apple fritters, doughnuts, pies, pastries, and much more.

The bakery is open year-round Monday to Friday, and weekends during September and October.

The Adventure Market sells goods, including home-grown peaches, apples, and pears. It is decorated with fun displays for the kids to enjoy while the parents shop.

About Rittman Orchard

The Vodraska family has been farming for the last three generations. Dale and his father previously owned two farms in Ohio, starting with a small orchard in the Seven Hills area of Cleveland, followed by a dairy farm in Ashtabula County called Sunnydale Farms.

When the boys – Chris and Matt – went away to school, Dale and his wife Peg decided to retire to the Smoky Mountains. However, this did not suit them. They purchased Rittman Orchard in 2004. Chris helped his father repair and replant the neglected orchards. After graduating from high school, Matt also joined the business.

The family has invested time and money in rebuilding the market, adding new crops and products, expanding the bakery, and opening a stand at the farmers market in Cleveland.

Pick Your Own At Rittman Orchard

Rittman Orchard also has a you-pick program.  Each fruit has its own picking season.  For example, the Strawberry picking season starts in June.  Golden Delicious Apples start to ripen for picking in late September and Granny Smith Apples are ready for picking in late October.  Be sure to check out the Facebook page to keep up to date with what is going on!

You-pick includes apples, raspberries, blueberries, cherries, strawberries, corn, asparagus, pumpkins, flowers (including Iris, Foxgloves, Celosia, Snapdragons, and Zinnias), and Sunflowers.

The Facebook page is very informative about what is going on at the farm at any time, so be sure to check it out before you visit. There is also an Apple Chart online, showing the 72 varieties that Rittman Orchards grow with their descriptions, ripening times, and uses.

The ‘What’s Ripe‘ page has information for the current you-pick or goods in the market.

Sunflower Picking At Rittman Orchard

In 2021, Rittman Orchard started offering Sunflower picking.  The field was open for different days from weeks to weeks.  You will need to check on the ‘What’s Ripe’ section of the website. 

They have a shed open where you can purchase glass jars.  Vases are also available for purchase.  Customers will receive a pair of scissors to cut the flowers.  These scissors have to be returned when the customer leaves.  Approximately 8 sunflowers fit in a jar.  This can be paid for by cash or card.  Sunflowers can also be purchased within the store.

Rittman Orchard Bakery

A variety of pies, cookies, and other items are made fresh in the bakery.  You can order online. Each month, the bakery has a ‘Pie of the Month’, such as Caramel Apple Walnut, Fruits of the Forest, Pecan, Lemon Crumb, and more.

Also available are other fresh pies such as Pumpkin and Rhubarb.

Various cookies are also made fresh onsite, including chocolate chunk, peanut butter, snickerdoodle, salted caramel, and oatmeal raisin.

Rittman Orchard Online Shop

Rittman Orchard has an online shop for placing orders which is easy to navigate. Every product has an accompanying photograph, so you can buy with confidence.  

Some of the products that are available include beverages, bread, candy, dog treats, eggs, meats, sauces, and snacks.

There is no home delivery service, you will need to collect your order.

Bent Ladder Winery At Rittman Orchard

Bent Ladder Winery is typically open Thursday to Saturday between Noon and 9 pm.  On Sunday it is open between Noon and 5 pm.  Please be sure to call 330-485-1089 or check the website and social media for exact times as the Winery may be closed for holidays.

At the Winery you will be able to buy many types of ciders and wines, some of which are available in the tasting room.  This is subject to availability.  These drinks can be served in a variety of ways.  Rittman’s offers flight boards, glasses, and pitchers on site, as well as howlers, growlers, and cans as to-go options so you can enjoy your favorite cider at home.

About Brant’s Apple Orchard

The Simmons family was the first to plant an orchard on this site in 1980, when they grew 13 apple varieties.

In the early 1990s, the property was purchased by Roy & Debbie Brant, who expanded the orchard by adding a bakery and farm market. 

In 2014, the Diehl family purchased the orchard as the Brants wanted to retire. The Diehls have worked hard to expand the orchard, now growing 22 varieties on more than 4,500 trees. They have included a playground, added walking trails, and more seating areas.

You can enjoy the pick-your-own program at Brant’s Apple Orchard. They have a huge variety of apples, Asian pears, and table grapes.

In Brant’s Apple Orchard market, you can purchase homemade chocolate and caramel apples, locally sourced honey and maple syrups, locally grown corn, and chestnuts!

Pick Your Own Apples

Pick your own apples typically starts early to mid-September each year. The varieties you can pick include Cortland, Jonathan, Empire, and Honeycrisp. Up-to-date information is always available on their Facebook page.

There is an online Apple Guide with more information about each variety. Taste samples are always available in the market, so you can try before you buy.

Asian Pears and Table Grapes

Asian Pears look like russet-colored apples. They are native to Southeast Asia, and this is the only place in northeast Ohio that grows them. There are three varieties: Chojuro – small and sweet, available throughout September. Nitaka – mild flavor, medium size, harvested mid-September. Olympic – the largest variety, mild and juicy, available mid to late September. Tasting is available in the market.

There are six varieties of Table Grapes grown here: Marquis – sweet, pale yellow. Vanessa – sweet, deep red. Himrod – sweet, golden yellow. Mars – intense flavor, blue. Glenora – sweet and spicy, dark blue. Einset – unique strawberry-like flavor, red.

The Market

When you enter the market, you will see huge bins of apple varieties for sale. You can select your own apples and mix and match the varieties. Samples of all homegrown produce are available – just ask a member of staff!

At Brant’s Apple Orchard market, you can find homegrown and locally grown produce, such as honey, jams and jellies, apple and pumpkin butters, Maple Syrup and other flavored syrups, homemade chocolates and caramel apples, and much more.

Brant’s also carries locally grown corn, peaches, pumpkins, and chestnuts.

You can also purchase items such as apple peelers, slicers, knives, cookbooks, gift baskets, and child-friendly items as gifts.

Do not forget to check out the cider, cider slushies, and hot or cold creamy caramel cider drinks. When grapes are in season, the sweet grape slushies are not to be missed!

The Bakery

The bakery at Brant’s Apple Orchard is well-known for its Apple Cider Donuts! At times, they make more than 6,000 of these popular delights in a single day! There are often other donuts available, depending on the seasonal availability and the creativity of the baker!

Their other baked goodies include Apple, Pumpkin, Grape, and Asian Pear Pies, Cookies, Scones, Apple Turnovers, Cinnamon Twists, Fresh Baked Breads, and much more.

You can also enjoy lunch from the bakery, sitting in one of the picnic areas located within the grounds. The menu includes sandwiches, soups, breads, and wrap trays. Check out the online menu for more information.

Events and Activities

You are guaranteed fantastic, fun-filled family entertainment at Brant’s Apple Orchard! Take their Hayrides, for example. Each ride lasts 20-30 minutes (weather permitting, of course!) and will be narrated by the owner or a knowledgeable member of staff. Travel through the vineyards and learn about the orchard’s history. You can even learn about how apples are grown!

The other attractions at Brant’s include a covered bridge, playground, and walking routes that are popular with kids of all ages! There are other activities throughout the season – be sure to check the website and social media for those updates!

About Fresh Strawberry Picking in Ohio

They say that fruit is ‘nature’s candy’, and strawberries are no exception! They truly are one of nature’s delicacies. Strawberries taste lovely, and they are nothing but good for you. While it is easy to buy strawberries from the local store, they seem to taste better when you pick your own from a local farm.

In Ohio, the strawberry season typically begins around the end of May and ends either late June or early July. If you want to visit any of the farms listed below, please check out their social media or website to be sure strawberries are in season.

Mitchell’s Berries & Blooms

Mitchell’s Berries & Blooms hold events and offer experiences for the whole family to enjoy. Among other things, visitors can pick daffodils in April, asparagus in April/May, strawberries in May/June, and blackberries in June/July. There is also a gift shop on site.

Doran’s Farm Market

This farm has a vast variety of fresh produce for sale seasonally. Visitors can pick strawberries, sugar snap peas, green beans, tomatoes, and pumpkins. As well as the fresh produce, the market sells Doran’s own-brand preserves, pickles, sauces, syrups, and more.

Jacquemin Farms

Jacquemin Farms is a seasonal farm market providing home-grown and locally-grown fruits and vegetables. This farm’s U-Pick strawberry patch has late-growing strawberries, so check out their well-maintained Facebook page to see when the picking begins!

Jacquemin is open June through October for seasonal activities, as well as strawberry picking. They offer lots of fall fun for both kids and adults.

Strawberry Picking in Southwest Ohio

Irons Fruit Farm

As well as strawberries, at Irons Fruit Farm visitors can pick sunflowers, blueberries, apples, and pumpkins. Each year there is a Corn Roast Festival, and in the fall a 12-acre corn maze adds to the family fun. Check Facebook for dates of all the seasonal u-pick produce.

There is also an on-site bakery and market. The bakery, in particular, is worth a visit as it sells the most delicious apple fritters and donuts. The market offers apple cider, jams and jellies, apple butter, gift packs, and more.

Stokes Berry Farm

There are a few U-pick fruits available at Stokes Berry Farm. Strawberries, of course, are available in season. Stokes keeps their Facebook page updated with dates for both u-pick and the market store fresh produce to purchase.

There is also a fishing lake here that allows ‘catch and release’ fishing.

Storeyland Christmas Tree Farm

This Christmas tree farm is over 100 acres with a good range of trees, including Canaan Fir, Concolor Fir, Fraser Fir, Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, and White Pine Trees. The farm also offers hay rides or if you prefer you can go around the farm on foot. Saws and sleds to transport the tree are provided.

Wilcox Tree Farm

Wilcox has a large selection of trees that have already been cut down, so you can simply select your tree and take it away if you don’t want to cut one. This is also a nice farm to visit, and if you like to spend time with your canine friends, they are welcome as well, as long as they are on a leash and well-behaved.

Tree varieties at this farm are Blue Spruce, Canaan Fir, Concolor Fir, Norway Spruce, Scotch Pine, and White Pine. If you are cutting your own tree, a saw and a sled are provided. The Farm will also shake and bail the tree before you take it.

Sugar Pines Farm

Sugar Pines Farm is the place to visit if you would like to cut down your own tree. Norway Spruce, Blue Spruce, and Fraser Fir are available at this farm. If you are not wanting to cut down your own tree, then there are plenty of pre-cut trees that can be chosen from as well.

When you visit Sugar Pines, you will also be able to grab yourself a hot chocolate, kettle corn, and go for a hayride.

Medina Christmas Tree Farms

Medina Christmas Tree Farms has been selling Christmas Trees for over 40 years. They have a selection of trees available that include Balsam Fir, Fraser Fir, Canaan Fir, Scotch Pine, Colorado Blue Spruce, White Pine, Concolor Fir, and Norway Spruce. This Farm is a cutting farm, so make sure you bring your saw and sled with you. You can also choose a cut tree if you prefer.

The farm also has a fantastic petting zoo that the kids (and adults) will enjoy. Refreshments are also provided after you have returned with your tree.

Whitehouse Christmas Tree Farm

The Whitehouse Christmas Tree Farm is a favorite for people in the local area. The staff is on hand to sort out the tree after you have selected the one that you would like to purchase. The staff will even be on hand to shake down the tree after they cut it for you. If you decide to visit, you can also make a donation for veterans. Balsam Fir and Fraser Fir are the tree varieties available here.

Walsh Tree Farm

Walsh Tree Farm is 104 acres in size. The main Christmas Tree species that is grown here is the Fraser Fir variety. The farm also offers a bail and drill service for a nominal charge, so when they do this for you, the tree will be ready to stand straight away. The farm also has a Christmas gift shop that offers plenty of seasonal gifts and treats.

Timbuk Farms

Timbuk Farms has been going for over 70 years, so you know that the quality of Christmas trees here is going to be on point. The varieties of trees here are Scotch Pine, Douglas Fir, White Spruce, Blue Spruce, Canaan Fir, Concolor Fir, and White Pine.

This is a picturesque farm, so it is highly advised to bring a camera with you and if you visit on the weekend, there is a chance that Santa and Mrs. Claus may pay a visit…

Cackler Farms Trees and Greenery

Cackler Farms has a lovely shop with wreaths for sale. The Christmas trees have already been cut down and shaken for purchase. Varieties available are Blue Spruce, Canaan Fir, Fraser Fir, Norway Spruce, and White Pine. A deli truck is available for lunch.

There is also a heated greenhouse for the kids to play and blow off some steam. Reservations are required if you would like to get a tree from Cackler Farms.

Country Cabin Tree Farm

Country Cabin Tree Farm offers White Pine, White Spruce, and Canaan Fir for visitors to cut. They provide Saws, Tree Drilling, Tree Shaking, Tree Drags, and Candy Canes for the kids!

The farm is typically open for three days in late November with the possibility of more days if supplies last. Check the Facebook page for the latest information. Reservations are required, and sign-up starts in early November.

Feisley Tree Farms

This is a you-pick farm and they start selling their trees in November. Varieties available here are Fraser Fir, Scotch Pine, White Pine, and Concolor Fir. This is an idyllic farm to visit, surrounded by rolling hills with a stunning farmhouse that is popular with photographers. The farm also has a specialist Christmas shop, and hay rides are available as well.

Advent Christmas Tree Farm

Advent Christmas Farm boasts the largest variety of trees in the entire state of Ohio! They have lots of different species of Christmas trees available, Cannan Fir, Korean Fir, Serbian Fir, White Spruce, Norway Spruce, White Pine, Concolor Fir, Colorado Blue Spruce, and Turkish Fir.

Pre-cut tree varieties are Canaan Fir, Colorado Blue Spruce, Concolor Fir, White Pine, and Korean Fir.

Young’s Jersey Dairy Farm

Not only does Young’s thrive on creating amazing quality homemade produce throughout the year, but you are also invited to pick and cut your own Christmas tree! Tree varieties are Concolor Fir, White Pine, Canaan Fir, and Norway Spruce. If you would like to cut down your own Christmas Tree, you will have to make a reservation via the website (the reservation slots will open up in September). 

There are lots of Christmas Trees available on the 30-acre site. Once you have decided which tree you would like, you will be able to chop it down. Once it is chopped down, the staff will wrap it and load it up for you.

Nana and Pap’s Christmas Tree Farm

Nana and Pap get things going the day after Thanksgiving. This isn’t just a place to pick up a tree, you can actually make a day of it here. You can pick a Canaan Fir, a Concolor Fir, or a large Norway Spruce tree and cut it down. After you have cut down your tree, you can visit the lovely petting zoo and go for a ride on the tractor.

The farm also sells seasonal items like wreaths, food, and drinks to keep you warm on a cold winter’s day.

Spring Valley Tree Farm

Spring Valley Tree Farm offers four types of Christmas Tree species they are Norway Spruce, Colorado Spruce, White Spruce, and Canaan Fir. You will not have to bring any equipment with you, as the farm will provide the sled and saw that is needed for cutting the tree down and transporting it back to the car. Pre-cut trees are also available.

The staff is also on hand to help you store the tree in or on top of the car. This farm does require a reservation. The dates and times are available on their website.

Bartels Farm

Bartels Farm has 124 acres of trees that you can choose from. The varieties here are: Eastern White Pine, Norway Spruce, Canaan Fir, Colorado Blue Spruce, and Fraser Fir.

You can purchase a wreath at Bartels Farm, there is also a Christmas Shop and visits to the animals are available.

Berninger Christmas Trees and Wreaths

Berninger is a family-run business in Lebanon. The tree varieties for cutting your own are Scotch Pine, White Pine, and Canaan Fir.

You will receive free popcorn and a handmade ornament. All trees are shaken and wrapped, and trunks can be drilled upon request.

You can purchase Fraser Fir trees pre-cut. Hand-crafted wreaths and pine and cedar garlands are also available.

Visit Molnar Farms

Throughout October on weekends, visitors can enjoy a corn maze and take a hayride through the farm, stopping at the pumpkin patch to pick your own pumpkin. There is also a kid’s straw maze and play area.

Visit the market for seasonal fruit and vegetables, as well as jams, cookies, pies, apple cider, and much more!

There are themed characters created out of hay bales that are fun to look at – please don’t touch!

You-Pick and Annual Events

Pick your own strawberries, normally from mid to late June. Find out dates, times, and general availability on their social media pages.

The sunflower field typically opens at the beginning of August. Take a hayride to the field and the admission price includes three sunflowers that you cut. Check the social media pages for the selected opening dates and times.

Fall fun weekends typically start at the end of September or early October, and run until the end of October.
