Facts About Garter Snakes

• They are named for their stripes – thought to look like the garters that men used to hold their socks up!
• They are the most widespread snake in the US
• They can have as many as 80 babies at a time!
• They give birth to live babies
• They are carnivores – although their diets can vary greatly
• They can swim and climb… as well as slithering!

Butler’s Garter Snake

• Thamnophis butleri

You have a good chance of seeing one of these garter snakes in Ohio gardens and countryside. These snakes are also at home in states such as Michigan and Indiana.

These snakes can be shy, but if an individual lets you handle it, then they tend to be quite placid. The Butler’s Garter Snake is usually found in places that are very quiet and have been abandoned by people and other species of animals. An example is fields that used to be worked and have since been left alone. The Butler’s Garter Snake enjoys feasting on leeches and earthworms.

Eastern Ribbon Garter Snake

• Thamnophis sauritus sauritus

The Eastern Ribbons Garter Snake can be found throughout the southeastern United States. The Eastern Ribbon Snake is semi-aquatic. These snakes do enjoy being in places that have humidity. Some examples of habitats are damp wood, swamps, lakes, rivers, meadows, and wet prairies.

While they do enjoy a lot of time in damp environments, they do spend the majority of their time out of water. While most garter snakes consume land-dwelling animals, the Eastern Ribbon Snake stands as an exception; they prefer to eat tadpoles, toads, frogs, small fish, and salamanders.

This garter snake has a very slender tail, so it does stand out from other species of garter snakes.

Plains Garter Snake

• Thamnophis radix

The Plains Garter Snake is a garter snake that can be found around the Wyandot County area of Ohio.

Their capacity to endure cold environments has earned these snakes renown, and this is one factor that keeps them visible even throughout the winter months. In the winter months, they will come out of their homes and sunbathe on rocks and slate. These snakes have got a lovely color to them, and they stand out a lot more than their cousins.

Eastern Garter Snake

• Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis

The Eastern Garter Snake is the most common type of garter snake that can be found in Ohio. This is a subspecies of the common garter snake.

This species of snake is not only present in Ohio but also extends along the eastern region of the United States. The most common places to find this species of snake are in places like ponds, rivers, streams, prairies, and grasslands.

This snake can have different colors on its sides. Some individuals may be brown, green, or blue, and some may be yellow. A lot of the common garter snakes found west of Lake Erie are black.

Shorthead Garter Snake

• Thamnophis brachystoma

The Shorthead garter snake exists in Ohio; however, it is much less common than the other featured garter snakes. Pockets of individuals have been found around the Youngstown area.

These snakes prefer quieter environments, places like abandoned buildings and fields. They also prefer to stay in close proximity to water sources, which leads them to inhabit areas near lakes and rivers. The Shorthead garter snake is quite small, growing to a maximum length of 18 inches. Their heads are also very small and look quite compacted into the rest of the body.

About Blendon Woods

Blendon Woods has seven trails, most of which are easy and quite short hikes. Along the trails you will find beech-maple and oak-hickory forests.

There is the 118-acre Walden Waterfowl Refuge with the 11-acre Thoreau Lake, providing sanctuary for hundreds of birds, ducks, and other wildlife.

When visiting Blendon Woods, you will almost certainly encounter the flock of wild turkeys wandering about looking for food!

Trails at Blendon Woods

There are seven trails at Blendon Woods, one is pet-friendly and one is reserved for cross-country skiing when the weather permits.

Brookside Trail

• 0.8 miles | Easy | Hike | Gravel

This is a one-way trail that passes through woods, crosses Ripple Rock Creek and connects with the Hickory Ridge Trail and Ripple Rock Trail. You can expect this hike to take approximately 25 minutes.

Hickory Ridge Trail

• 0.3 miles | Easy | Hike | Gravel

The Hickory Ridge Trail is an easy, short one-way trail connecting Brookside Trail, Overlook Trail, and Ripple Rock Trail. This hike will take around 10 minutes to complete.

Overlook Trail

• 0.6 miles | Easy | Hike | Gravel

This one-way trail passes through woods, crosses Ripple Rock Creek, and connects with the Hickory Ridge and Ripple Rock trails. You can expect to spend about 20 minutes completing this trail.

Sugarbush Trail

• 1.2 miles | Moderate to Difficult | Hike | Cross-Country Skiing | Grass

The Sugarbush Trail is a one-way trail passing through woods and a meadow where you will see many different species of birds. The trailhead for this trail is about 0.8 miles from the main parking lot, so if you want to hike out and back, your walk will be closer to 2 miles. This hike will take approximately 40 minutes to complete.

Goldenrod Trail

• 1.3 miles | Easy | Hike | Pets | Grass

This trail is an easy multi-loop trail passing through meadows. Dogs are welcome on this trail. You can expect this hike to take around 30 minutes.

Lake Trail

• 0.5 miles | Easy | Hike | Paved

The Lake Trail is an easy one-way hike leading to Thoreau Lake. This trail connects to the Brookside Trail, Hickory Ridge Trail, and Overlook Trail. As this is just a one-way trail, out-and-back is closer to 1 mile. This trail (one way) will take around 15 minutes to complete.

Ripple Rock Trail

• 0.4 miles | Easy | Hike | Gravel

This is a short and easy one-way trail passing through woods and connecting to the Brookside, Hickory Ridge, and Overlook trails. You can expect to spend about 15 minutes completing this trail.

Reservable Shelters

Dogwood

• An open-air shelter with a maximum capacity of 110 (80 under cover) and is ADA-accessible. A charcoal grill, prep table, serving counter, and two electrical outlets. There is lighting, a drinking fountain, restrooms, and a play area – featuring a field, swings, and a horseshoe pit with shoes. All-day and half-day reservations are available.

Hickory Grove

• An open-air shelter with one wall. This shelter has a maximum capacity of 110 (60 under cover) and is ADA-accessible. There is counter space, a serving window, three electrical outlets, and lighting. A charcoal grill and prep table, drinking fountain, flush restrooms, and a wood-burning fireplace are also provided. There is a sand volleyball court and a play area featuring a field, swings, and a horseshoe pit with shoes. There is also The Around 9 disc golf practice game, with discs. All-day reservations only.

Shadblow

• An open-air shelter. Maximum capacity is 50 (40 under cover). Counter space, one double charcoal grill, prep table, two electrical outlets, and lighting. There is also a drinking fountain, restrooms, and a wood-burning fireplace. The play area features a small field, a universal playset, swings, and a horseshoe pit with shoes. All-day and half-day reservations are available.

Sycamore

• An open-air shelter with one wall. The maximum capacity is 130 (80 under cover). A kitchenette, serving counter, electric chest cooler, sink with running water. There is a large double grill, six electrical outlets, a water fountain, and restrooms. The play area features a field, a sand volleyball court, swings, and two horseshoe pits with shoes. All-day and half-day reservations are available

Non-Reservable Shelters

There are 5 shelters that are enclosed on three sides. Each seat approximately 30. Grills included.

About Young’s Dairy

The history of Young’s Jersey Dairy Farm begins when the red barn was built in 1869. The 60-acre farm was bought just after the end of WWII, and for around ten years after the purchase of the farm, the family farmed the land. It was in 1958 that the family decided to sell Jersey milk to the public.

Young’s Jersey Dairy Farm has something for everyone. Whether this is visiting the animals, enjoying some sports, or having a meal with drinks, there is something here that will keep everyone entertained all day long. Below are some of the things that you could soon be enjoying at Young’s Jersey Dairy Farm.

Spring Events

Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter Egg Hunt is very popular with children who love to participate. The events are split into age groups:

• 2:00 pm – Ages 4 and Under
• 2:20 pm – Ages 5 to 7
• 2:40 pm – Ages 8 to 10

This event is free of charge and goes ahead regardless of weather conditions.

Memorial Day Weekend

The Memorial Day weekend is great fun with carnival rides available. The Carnival typically runs at the following times:

• Thursday & Friday: 3 pm – 10 pm
• Saturday: 12 pm – 11 pm
• Sunday & Monday: 12 pm – 10 pm

Summer Events

Independence Day Family Value Week

Some activities included with the wristband are Moovers & Shakers, batting cages, Wagon Farm Ride, and Cowvin’s Fast Slide. The wristbands are good for a full day of entertainment. Please enquire on the website or phone for prices.

Labor Day Family Value Weekend

The Labor Day Family Value Weekend is a great time to visit the farm. Once again, the wristband is good for all day, and there are plenty of activities to choose from such as Cowvin’s fast slide, Cowvin’s corny maze, Wagon ride, plus a whole lot more. Please enquire ahead of time on the website or by phone for prices.

Fall Events

Wool Gathering

The Wool Gathering takes place in mid-September. Wool-bearing animals such as Angora rabbits, llamas, alpacas, and cashmere goats will be on show for the guests. 

In this event, there is a demonstration of how to shear the animals. Admission to this event is free of charge, and there are a lot of vendors from Ohio.

Cowvin’s Corny Maze

This tricky maze that covers 3.5 acres with over one mile of path is open daily from early August to early November. Can you conquer the maze? At the end is a fun playground for the kids to enjoy.

Pick Your Own Pumpkins

Young’s Jersey Dairy Farm has acres of pumpkin patches. The pumpkins that can be picked range from fairly small to huge!

Pumpkin Picking is typically available at the farm between mid-September and late October. Be sure to check the website and social media for up-to-date information. 

Purchase a pumpkin ticket from the store and then get on the wagon, which takes you out onto the fields. You will need to check the website in advance for the cost of this activity.

Winter Events

There are various winter events here. We are only listing one, so be sure to check the website for other events such as Valentine’s Day celebrations.

Choose and Cut Christmas Trees

There is a 30-acre site where the Christmas trees are grown. You can select and cut down your own tree, then the staff will wrap it and load it for you. This event is by reservation only. Reservation slots open in September.

Food and Drink

Young’s Dairy Ice Cream

Delicious ice cream made fresh on the farm using the farm’s own ingredients. The ice cream made here is really smooth. It is made slowly, which makes it taste a lot richer. The ice cream flavors change frequently.

Young’s Dairy Cheese

Cheese is also a big staple of the farm. Some of the cheeses produced are Cheddar, Italian, Garlic, Dill, and Basil Cheddar.

Young’s Dairy Store

The Store is a restaurant offering meals and snacks, including Burgers, Fries, Sandwiches, Breakfasts, and salads. You can also order online and pick it up to-go.

Cowtherine’s Carousel

Cowtherine’s Carousel includes six Jersey Cows, one pig, one goat, one rooster, and 21 horses, each decorated to represent Young’s ice cream flavors.

• A Farmstead Cheese shop selling Young’s branded memorabilia and other treats

About Lima Ohio

Lima is the county seat of Allen County in Northwest Ohio. The Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (Lima Army Tank Plant) is the sole manufacturer of the M1 Abrams tank.

Lima was named after Peru’s capital city Lima. The Ottawa River flows through the city, and Lima has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons.

Fun Fact: Edna de Lima was an international operatic singer from Lima Ohio. Her real name was Edna Burton, and after marriage, Edna Van Dyke. The precise dates of both her birth and death are unknown, but she was born around 1875 and died in either 1959 or 1960.

McLean Teddy Bear Park

Teddy Bear Park is a 134-acre park with three ponds and 3.5 miles of hiking trails. Activities and facilities available here include fishing (no license required), a large picnic area, two reservable shelters, a sand volleyball court, play equipment, and more.

The park is named as such because Mr. McLean would provide children in the surrounding hospitals with a teddy bear each, to help comfort them during their stay.

Lauer Historical Farm

Lauer Farm has a history dating back to the mid-1830s. Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District acquired the farm in 2006. There has been extensive work carried out to make this a historical working farm. On a visit to the farm, you can learn about past agricultural techniques, and how they are still used today.

This location is also offered as an event venue. Reservable facilities include the Historic Home, Bank Barn, Celebration Garden Venue, and the Wedding Pergola.

Hidden Creek Golf Club

Hidden Creek Golf Club has an 18-hold golf course available for guests and members. There is also a driving range and practice areas.

Nine18 is a snack and beverage bar selling freshly made sandwiches, weekly specials, and appetizers. Beer, wine, soft drinks, and mixed drinks are available.

Outdoor Pavilion and Charcoal Grill has a large charcoal grill as well as a full-service kitchen. The dinners here are served buffet-style.

Alter Ego Comics caters to people who like comic books, TV series, and Movies from the past and present. There are posters, games action figures, and various toys for sale. The shop has a huge collection of comics and items from some of the biggest studios such as WB and DC Comics.

Artspace-Lima is the perfect place to visit if you love art. There are many art galleries and some of the exhibits here are from some of the biggest names in the art world.

Faurot Park is 89 acres of green space in the city of Lima that offers many activities for all ages.

Allen County Historical Society & Museum

The Allen County Historical Society & Museum is one of the most visited attractions in Lima Ohio. Allen County Historical Society & Museum is a fantastic place to visit if you would like to know more about the area. MacDonell House is an old Victorian House and it has been cared for and kept in its original style since those days. 

A lot of time and effort has been put into this house and there are some very interesting artifacts on show as well. The house itself can take a whole day to look around and admire. This is a very busy attraction so check opening times in advance of your visit.

Lincoln Park Railway Exhibit

At the Lincoln Park Railway Exhibit, there are steam engines, carriages cabooses, and other artifacts on show. Some of the steam carriages are still in use today. Guests are welcome to picnic in the area and it is a great attraction to visit in the summer months.

Schoonover Park

This is one of the quietest attractions in Lima Ohio. There is a large lake here that contains various freshwater fish. Some of the fish in this lake are not native to Ohio, but still call this lake their home. There is also a swimming pool available. 

This park is open all year round, so you can enjoy the park after one of Ohio’s legendary snowstorms, or admire the various plants and trees in the spring and fall as well. In the summer months, when the trees are in bloom you can sit and enjoy a picnic.

Ottawa Metro Park

Ottawa Metro Park is a 287-acre park with fishing and boating available on the 89-acre Lima Lake reservoir, and swimming at the 450-foot-long Ottawa Metro Park Beach. There is an 18-hole Frisbee golf course, a sand volleyball court, and an outdoor amphitheater. Three reservable shelters with electricity are available.

About Lancaster Ohio

Lancaster is the county seat of Fairfield County. It is in the south-central area of Ohio and is close to the Hocking River.

Originally known as New Lancaster, it was shortened by city ordinance in 1805. The formal incorporation as a city happened in 1831.

Lancaster hosts the Fairfield County Fair which is in the second week of October and is the last county fair in Ohio each year.

Fun Fact: Malcolm Forbes – publisher of Forbes magazine ran a local Lancaster newspaper in 1941.

Rock Mill Covered Bridge

This covered bridge can be traced back to 1800 when Lancaster Ohio was founded. The current bridge was rebuilt in 1901. There is a lot of history attached to this bridge and if you are lucky enough to meet any locals whilst visiting the bridge, then they may have a story or two to share with you.

The headwaters of the Hocking River emerge from a rocky ravine and create a waterfall under Rock Mill Covered Bridge.

AHA! A Hands-on Adventure

Ohio Glass Museum

Glass blowing is an art form that takes a great deal of skill to get the perfect results. The Ohio Glass Museum has an exhibit available for guests to view, and if you fancy having a go at glass blowing, you can do it here! 

You can even sign up for a glass blowing experience. After some brief tips, you will have the chance to put those tips to the test.

Art & Clay on Main

A real fun thing to do. At Art & Clay you choose your piece of pottery, select your paints, and paint your own design on the ceramic. Then it goes to the kiln room where it is glazed and fired for 24 hours. You will be given a pick-up date, but you don’t have to rush back; they will hold your item for 45 days after that date. Classes and events are held here also, and you can order custom artwork such as birthday plates, pet portraits, and handprint clay impressions of kids and pets.

Square 7 Coffee House on the same site offers a wide selection of beverages including a wide variety of coffees, iced tea, smoothies, and hot chocolate.

If you like American history, the Sherman House Museum is a great place to visit. Olde Shoe Factory Antique Mall

The Olde Shoe Factory Antique Mall has dozens of rooms for people to visit and browse what is on offer. 

Most of the antiques are available to buy for a set price, however, some of the items that are on show here are priceless and are not for sale. This is a great place to visit if you like antiques. It is also an ideal place to visit on a cold winter’s day.

Sensory Trail Park

The Sensory Trail Park has activities including a tree house, swings, sensory stations, outdoor music instruments, birding, and nature-watching.

The Sensory Trail is a short, paved trail that is full of surprises! The trail runs along the Fetter Run creek. The park and all the activities are wheelchair friendly. It is located behind Forest Rose School.

Rising Park

Mount Pleasant is in Rising Park, it is a 250-foot-tall sandstone bluff called the ‘Standing Stone’. The views from the top of Mount Pleasant are outstanding, but it is not an easy hike to the top!

This is the perfect place to relax and walk amongst the lovely scenery and discover the wildlife in this park. Also, make sure not to miss Devil’s Kitchen Cave, which is located on the front side of Mount Pleasant.

Fairfield County Infirmary

This place is not for the fainthearted!

If you like ghost hunts, this is the place to be. This infirmary has a long and dark history, and it is said that the place is very much alive – with the dead! Paranormal activity has been reported here on a very regular basis for over 100 years.

If you are feeling really brave (not sure about me!), you can stay overnight. A warning – doors slam on their own, the equipment can behave quite oddly and you may hear voices. The most experienced ghosthunters have confessed to feeling quite spooked after a visit here.

Rockmill Brewery

Rockmill Brewery was built at what was an old 19th-century horse farm. The taproom is now located in the old tavern.

They offer a range of good beers and ales, as well as food. The Rockmill Brewery has been entertaining people for some years, and if you fancy good food and drink, then this is a great place to spend an hour or three!

Mad River Gorge and Nature Preserve

The Mad River Gorge and Nature Preserve is over 90 acres of natural beauty. Rock climbing is also available on the 50-foot crag. This area is regarded as Ohio’s broadest rock climbing location.

The Heritage Center of Clark County

Young’s Jersey Dairy Farm is one of the best places you can find for an amazing day out near Springfield! There is a nice petting zoo with goats, sheep, and cows. Clark County Fairgrounds

The Clark County Fairgrounds is a must-visit and the ideal place to finish off a break or vacation in this area.

Pennsylvania House Museum

The Pennsylvania House dates back to 1839 and in time it was modernized to host a museum. Back in the day, it was a Tavern for weary travelers heading out West. When the American Civil War was concluded, it was used as a Doctor’s clinic and boarding house. The Pennsylvania House Museum was refurbished with 24 rooms and an extensive collection of antiques.

The house is home to vintage dolls and old-style furnishings. The Museum has played such an important role in the local area that it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Springfield Museum of Art

The Springfield Museum of Art has a permanent collection on display and it also has temporary exhibits as well. It also boasts of being the only art museum in Ohio having an affiliation with the national Smithsonian Institution.

About Hawks in Ohio

Hawks mainly hunt rabbits, rats, skunks, and mice for food. The estimated population of Hawks in Ohio is around 10 million. Between 1-2 million of these Hawks are part of the annual migration where they enter the state in the fall and winter.

Hawks hunt during the day and most species rely heavily on their razor-sharp vision, which is 8 times sharper than that of humans. You may see hawks hunting at dusk as this is when their prey become active.

There are 10 species of Hawks that either make Ohio their home or pass through when they migrate.  The 10 species are:

Broad-Winged Hawk

Buteo platypterus | 1 pound | 33 inch wingspan

Broad-Winged Hawks are migratory birds, spending winter in Ohio, and flying south for the summer. It is estimated that these birds travel over 4,000 miles to migrate, and they do this twice a year – there and back! These hawks are found primarily in southeastern Ohio in wooded habitat. They spend much of their time within the tree canopy.

Food: Birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects.

Cooper’s Hawk

Accipiter cooperii | ½ – 1½ pounds | 29 – 37 inch wingspan

The Cooper’s Hawk can be mistaken for the Sharp-Shinned Hawk, although the latter is considerably smaller. Cooper’s Hawks are non-migratory. This hawk feeds primarily on small birds, so is frequently spotted around birdfeeders.

The Cooper’s Hawk is a very agile flier and is one of the more commonly seen raptors in Ohio.

Food: Mainly birds, sometimes reptiles and amphibians.

Harris’s Hawk

Parabuteo unicinctus | 1½ – 2½ pounds | 18 – 23 inch wingspan

Harris’s Hawk is a rare hawk in Ohio. Unusually, these hawks hunt in groups or teams, preying on medium-sized mammals and birds. Harris’s Hawks are often used by falconers or in education programs.

Northern Goshawk

Accipiter gentilis | 1½ – 3½ pounds | 40 – 47 inch wingspan

The Northern Goshawk is a fierce hunter and will even attack humans if they feel their nest is threatened. Some individuals are short-term migrants to Ohio, spending most of their time in the western states of the US and the southern regions of Canada. These hawks are hard to spot in Ohio.

Food: Birds, mammals, reptiles, and invertebrates.

Northern Harrier

Circus hudsonius | 10½ – 14 ounces | 38 – 48 inch wingspan

Northern Harriers are unique in the world of hawks as they rely as much on their hearing as on their eyesight to catch prey, very similar to owls. Northern Harriers are found in open grasslands, fields, or marshes. You can easily spot them as they fly very low when hunting. The Northern Harrier is a State Endangered Species.

Food: Small mammals, birds, snakes, frogs, and insects.

Red-Shouldered Hawk

Buteo lineatus | 1 – 1½ pounds | 37 – 42 inch wingspan

Red-Shouldered Hawks are non-migratory. These hawks reside in mature lowland woods such as swamps and river corridors, although they will live and nest in suburban areas too. Red-Shouldered Hawks have an easily identifiable screech setting them apart from other hawks in Ohio, however, Blue jays mimic their screech to stay safe from predators.

Food: Birds, amphibians, and reptiles.

Red-Tailed Hawk

Buteo jamaicensis | 1½ – 3½ pounds | 43 – 55 inch wingspan

Some Red-Tailed Hawks are non-migratory, others migrate into Ohio for the winter. They can be seen all over the state of Ohio, in fact, all over the USA! There are 14 subspecies of Red-Tailed Hawk, so their colors vary from nearly white to almost black, but they always have red in their tail. Not all of these species are present in Ohio.

Food: Small mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and insects.

Rough-Legged Hawk

Buteo lagopus | 1½ – 3½ pounds | 18 – 23 inch wingspan

The Rough-Legged Hawk migrates to Ohio in the winter, but for most of the year, you will not see them in Ohio. They prefer the colder areas including the Arctic and Russia, they come to Ohio when it is too cold in those places. These are one of the very few birds of prey that truly hover in place when hunting. Another unusual thing about the Rough-Legged Hawk is the feathers they have all the way down to their feet.

Food: Small mammals and birds

Sharp-Shinned Hawk

Accipiter striatus | 3 – 8 ounces | 17 – 26 inch wingspan

The Sharp-Shinned Hawk is non-migratory. It is the smallest hawk in the US. There are 10 subspecies of Sharp-Shinned Hawks and they come in all shapes and sizes. The majority of the subspecies do not live in the US. Sharp-Shinned Hawks can be confused with Cooper’s Hawks, which are significantly larger, but unless you see the two together, it is easy to wrongly identify either hawk.

Sharp-Shinned Hawks are swift and use the element of surprise to catch their prey. They can often be seen around birdfeeders preying on the small birds that visit.

Swainson’s Hawk

Buteo swainsoni | 1½ – 3 pounds | 46 – 54 inch wingspan

Swainson’s Hawks are migratory and they have one of the longest migratory paths, flying to Argentina each fall. They vary in color from light brown to dark gray. Sightings of Swainson’s Hawk are very rare in Ohio.

About Indian Run Falls

This is a hidden gem located in Dublin, Ohio. The site covers 3.5 acres and is located in Old Dublin between the new library and the post office. You can access it from behind the new library or the post office. The trail runs between the two places.

What makes Indian Run Falls so special is the pristine waterfalls and streams. The area used to be home to the Wyandot Tribe. Dublin provided access to the area by adding trails, observation decks, a shelter house, and a walking bridge. 

Waterfall and Trail

The waterfall is an approximate 12 to 15-foot plunge, and the crest is estimated at 20 feet wide. The water flow is moderate, but changes often with rainfall.  There are smaller cascades upstream that are equally as beautiful. 

The trail is a moderately trafficked out-and-back trail. It is roughly 0.9 miles long and is great for all skill levels, including children. The trail is not stroller- or wheelchair-friendly.

Old Man’s Cave is one of the 7 major hiking trail parks in Hocking Hills. The most popular trail at Old Man’s Cave is a one-way trail loop that is approximately 1.5 miles long.

Ash Cave

Ash Cave is located in the southernmost part of Hocking Hills. The path back to the massive horseshoe cave is paved. When walking this path, we have seen wheelchairs and motorized carts navigating the paved path well. Beautiful hemlocks and beech trees surround the area and provide an amazing backdrop.

Cedar Falls

Cedar Falls is a 0.5-mile-long hike that is considered moderate and strenuous with steps. It is a one-way trail with a waterfall, unique rock formations, and bridges. It takes about 40 minutes to walk this trail. Leashed pets are welcome, but there is no wading or swimming allowed in the waterfall or creek areas.

The escape room here is booked with 6 people at a time. The Hocking Hills escape room usually takes about an hour, unless you are exceptionally good at it! The game is designed as a challenge; therefore, not everybody wins.

Columbus Washboard Co

The Columbus Washboard Co started in Grandview, near Columbus. It moved to Logan in 1999. This is the only washboard manufacturer still operating in the United States.  The washboard factory continues to assemble the products by hand with teams of skilled craftsmen.
